πŸŽ“ Scholarships and grants

Lisa Nagle Medical Assisting Scholarship β€” Augusta Technical College

An opportunity worth sharing with MA students is the Lisa Nagle Medical Assisting Scholarship at Augusta Technical College.

  • The college’s official Foundation scholarship list confirms that this scholarship exists.
  • A scholarship directory currently lists an award of $1,000 and a July 7, 2027 deadline.
  • The directory describes eligibility for full-time Medical Assisting students who have completed at least one semester and meet its GPA requirement.

The published GPA information differs between scholarship directories, so students should confirm the current GPA, award amount and deadline directly with Augusta Technical College before applying.

WorkSource Georgia β€” possible WIOA training assistance

Georgia’s WorkSource system administers federally funded Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act services through local workforce offices. Eligible individuals may be considered for training assistance, depending on their circumstances, local funding and the approved training-provider list.

For someone considering Medical Assistant training, the important step is to ask the local WorkSource office whether the specific school and programme are eligible. Do not assume every MA course qualifies.

πŸ₯ Healthcare news relevant to Georgia MAs

Georgia measles cases rise to 25 in 2026

On October 27, the Georgia Department of Public Health confirmed three additional measles cases in Macon County. All three individuals were unvaccinated and had close contact with a previously confirmed case.

Georgia’s total reached 25 confirmed measles cases in 2026, compared with 10 cases during all of 2025. Georgia Department of Public Health

Why this matters to MAs: Front-office and clinical staff may be among the first to encounter patients reporting fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes and rash.

DPH advises people with possible measles symptoms to call their healthcare provider before going to a clinic, hospital or public-health facility. MAs should follow their practice’s screening, immediate isolation, escalation and reporting protocols rather than allowing a potentially infectious patient to remain in a shared waiting area.

Read the official Georgia DPH announcement.

Georgia Access 2027 open enrollment is now underway

Georgia Access opened its 2027 health-insurance enrollment period on November 1, 2026.

Important dates:

  • December 15, 2026: Last day to select a plan for coverage beginning January 1, 2027.
  • January 15, 2027: Open enrollment ends.

MAs working in primary care may hear more patient questions about coverage, referrals and insurance changes during this period. Staff should direct patients to Georgia Access or certified enrollment professionals rather than advising them on plan eligibility or selection.
